The White Rose Resistance group
The White Rose was a group of University of Munich students who formed a resistance group in Germany during World War II to speak out against Adolf Hitler and National Socialism. The group promoted non-violence and passive resistance. They stood for human rights and against intolerance. Core members Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell, Willi Graf, and siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl, with the help of Professor Kurt Huber aimed to turn the minds of German citizens by writing and distributing resistance leaflets which pointed out the corruption and atrocities of the German government. They urged their readers to resist passively by not contributing to the war effort so that Germany might lose. Eventually, the core members of the group were arrested by the Gestapo and executed for their words.
"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did." ~ Sophie Scholl
